Hakan Daloğlu
This project is an online, virtual retrospective for Hakan Daloğlu, an exceptionally talented artist and academic, featuring nearly 600 of his works. The collection is categorized by periods, allowing a deep exploration of the artist’s evolution. The design is minimalistic and user-friendly, enabling viewers to easily transition from older to newer works. A classic grid layout was used to mimic the experience of a physical museum, aiming to create a digital space where the art can be experienced just like in a gallery.
Hakan Daloğlu is a prominent artist whose work is heavily influenced by the fantastical worlds of Brueghel, Fussli, Goya, and German Expressionism. His pieces explore the theme of Tempus Fugit (time flies) in a Gothic and Dark Romantic style, often incorporating motifs such as skeletons, which evoke Latin phrases like Carpe Diem and Memento Mori, reminding us of the transience of life and the inevitability of death. His work also references the Baroque Dance of Death (danse macabre) and vanitas themes, symbolizing the futility of life. Daloğlu combines Gothic traditions with socio-political reflections, using symbols like bulls and minotaurs to bridge ancient cultural references with modern existential inquiries.
Icon
For this artist, we decided to use a raven as a symbol rather than a logo, as it is a recurring image in the artist's work and also featured in his personal portrait. The raven, representing both mystery and depth, serves as a powerful visual element for use across the website and other promotional materials, effectively embodying the essence of the artist's aesthetic and thematic focus.
